My family and I searched for the LONGHORN benchmark on June 24, 2003, with mixed results.

Just beginning to search, with no sunburn at this point.
There is supposed to be a benchmark southwest of this observation tower.
There was supposed to be a benchmark around here somewhere. I'm probably standing on it.
I must be close... This is the right location, according to the GPS, and the right distance
and direction from the observation tower, but all I found was a concrete square with no marker.
Sure wish I had a rake... and a hat.
This is Longhorn Reference Mark Number 2. The arrow is supposed to point toward
the main mark, which I never found, but it does point to the square concrete slab on which I was standing.
Here are the spiral stairs leading to the top of the observation tower.
This is the view from the top of the observation tower. Longhorn
Reference Mark Number 2 is about 40 feet away, in the direction indicated.
Longhorn Reference Mark Number 2 is about 20 feet to the right of that truck, on the opposite
side of the road, behind a large rock and a yucca plant.
This handy monitor adjustment tool is included at no charge.
